Dr. Joseph D. Small will lead Tusculum College’s popular Theologian- in-Residence series in February 2004. Dr. Small will focus the series on “Excellent Ministry in an Indifferent Culture.” The series will be presented on the four Tuesdays in February beginning at 10:00 a.m., breaking for lunch, and ending by mid-afternoon. The location is the Chalmers Conference Center on the Tusculum campus.

Columbia Theological Seminary’s Lay Institute of Faith and Life is the sponsor for “On the Edge,” an exhibition of painting, photographs, sculpture, and drawing, scheduled October 1 - November 15. The exhibition will feature the work of artists from as close by as Atlanta and as far away as Austria.

“We believe we have found work that has both visual impact and engages spiritually. We’re very excited about the exhibition,” Lay Institute Director Rick Dietrich says.

Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCSOM) welcomed members of the class of 2007 during a traditional White Coat Ceremony, Aug. 29. As they embark on their quest to become tomorrow’s physicians, the 75 incoming PCSOM students will take the oath of commitment and don white coats for the first time. The ceremony also helps to foster a special bond students will have with patients, colleagues, and teachers as they begin medical school. In the presence of family members, friends, and the campus community, students from the class of 2007 were “coated” by the students from the medical school’s class of 2006.

Two Presbyterian colleges in the Synod of Living Waters, Centre College in Danville, KY, and Rhodes College in Memphis, are among the top 50 liberal arts colleges in the United States, according to the latest annual rankings by U.S. News and World Report. They were also on last year’s Top 50 list. On the regional lists of the best comprehensive colleges offering Bachelor’s degrees are: Maryville College in Maryville, TN; Belhaven College in Jackson, MS; and Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL. Centre and Maryville Colleges were also included in the list of “best values” in their categories. Maryville was also included in a listing of like schools in the South with the highest graduation rates.

During commencement exercises at Louisville Seminary in May, Nolan Waller, Moderator of the Synod of Living Waters, received a Devoted Service Award, which recognizes individuals for their commitment and service in the life of the church.

Centre College freshman volleyball player Adair Howell will appear on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine after winning the Cosmo Cover Search contest.

Shelaine Bird and Sarah Erickson graduated with the Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in May. Bird, from Birmingham, Alabama, has been called as pastor to First Presbyterian Church in Florence, Arizona. Erickson is from Daphne, Alabama, and is associate director of continuing education at Columbia Seminary. Columbia granted 118 degrees during commencement exercises.
