Advice for Church Groups
Involved in Katrina Relief Work

The National Health Ministries of the PC (USA) has some good advice for relief workers planning on going to the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina or Rita last year. They recommend up-dating all vaccines and immunizations, knowing your allergies, using sun block, drinking plenty of water, and use of respirator masks to protect against mold and fungi.

Their web site suggests that every group require a health information form from volunteers, and they have one available on their web site along with other good information.

If your church is interested in sending a group to work on recovery in Mississippi, please contact George and Linda Bates, coordinators for the Presbytery of Mississippi’s recovery efforts in conjunction with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Contact them either through email at gbates1002 {at} aol.com or call their office at the Handsboro Presbyterian Church at 228/604-2424.
