Maryville College

Army Ground Forces BandMaryville College will serve as host for the premier ensemble of the Army Ground Forces, The Concert Band, Tuesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Wilson Chapel. The band is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of the band's commander, Major Daniel J. Steiger, the talented group maintains a large and varied repertoire that includes all facets of traditional and contemporary wind literature, as well as orchestral transcriptions, marches, instrumental and vocal solos, popular tunes, and patriotic music. The ensemble has traveled throughout the United States, performing in such notable halls as Severance Hall, Spivey Hall, and Woodruff Arts Center, and with numerous outstanding artists, such as the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and Miss America.

Major Daniel J. Steiger contacted Maryville College Associate Professor of Music, Larry Smithee, to arrange the performance. Smithee, who also serves as the director of the Maryville College-Community Concert Band, was honored at the opportunity to host and present the exceptional ensemble.

"A performance by the Army Ground Forces Band on our campus presents an exciting opportunity for our college and area community," said Smithee.

"Serving as musical ambassadors of the American combat soldier, the band program is guaranteed to spark the patriotic spirit in all of us."
