Goal is to aid in ending povertyLOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People has awarded a $20,000 grant to Kentucky Care Professional House Cleaning, a cooperative composed of immigrants and single mothers in Lexington. The grant will be used to help the eight-woman cooperative develop and market their business and move out of poverty. The Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The church's program of self-development began in 1970 and each year awards grants totaling more than $2 million to groups in the United States and around the world. The grants, which are funded through the PC(USA)'s One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, are given to projects that are owned and controlled by the economically poor community groups that benefit from them.
